President Bola Tinubu has given the green light for the appointment of Yazid Shehu Umar Danfulani as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC).

The official communication confirming the appointment was contained in a letter dated May 22, 2025, and endorsed by Senator George Akume, who serves as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

As stated in the letter, Danfulani’s tenure commenced on May 21, 2025, and will run for an initial four-year period, as stipulated under Section 15(a) of the NAIC Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

Danfulani, who holds the traditional title of Turakin Zamfara, is anticipated to inject renewed energy and strategic insight into NAIC. The agency plays a crucial role in safeguarding Nigeria’s agricultural sector through insurance coverage against various risks, including adverse weather, pests, crop diseases, and other environmental hazards.

A veteran in both the public and financial sectors, Danfulani earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s in Arts and Management from the University of Hertfordshire in the UK. His professional journey includes roles at the Central Bank of Nigeria and a past tenure as Zamfara State’s Commissioner for Commerce and Industry.

The letter also mentions that his salary and other entitlements will be determined by the provisions outlined in the “Certain Political, Public and Judicial Office Holders (Salaries and Allowances, etc) (Amendment) Act, 2008”.

His selection has been widely seen as an endorsement of his leadership capabilities, specialized knowledge, and dedication to the country’s progress.
