Solomon Dalung, a former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, has cautioned that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu might not secure a second term and could end up back in Lagos after his first term concludes.
Dalung, a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), issued this caution during an interview with the Nigerian Tribune on Saturday.
He argued that both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have disappointed Nigerians, creating an opening for emerging parties like the ADC.
“Tinubu may come to the conclusion that he should be preparing to return to Lagos by May 29, 2027,” Dalung said.
He pointed out that the growing frustration among citizens fueled by economic difficulties, insecurity, and ineffective leadership could soon lead to a demand for an alternative political path.
Dalung also rejected President Tinubu’s previous remarks characterizing the ADC as a gathering of displaced politicians, asserting that the party is rapidly becoming a formidable force in the lead-up to the 2027 elections.
“The ADC is not just another minor opposition party. We are building a movement that will shock even the most doubtful Nigerians,” he said.
While he didn’t reveal detailed plans, the former minister mentioned that the party is engaging with various stakeholders nationwide and intends to put forward credible candidates capable of challenging the current political establishment.
