According to Nkem Uzoma Abonta, a former member of the House of Representatives, Abia State Governor Alex Otti may be running the state without making room for opposition members in his inner circle out of fear of being sabotaged.

He asserted that the opposition members are still in a “fighting and war mood” against the governor, which means the governor avoids them.

In a live radio program broadcast on Flo FM Umuahia on Friday, Abonta, who served as the National Assembly representative for the Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal district, made this statement.

In order to be accommodated by Otti, he advised the members of his party, the PDP, and other opposition political groups to abandon the warrior posture.

“I see him as a man who is careful and wants to take full responsibility for his actions and not too much delegation because of the system he met on the ground.

“He does not know who to trust. You don’t be in a war and fighting mood and you expect one to sit down and discuss with you.

“There is also the fear that he may be sabotaged. The State House of Assembly is there to debate whatever the Governor is doing. We elected them to represent us”, said Abonta.

He claimed that in under two years, Governor Alex Otti had improved the state by implementing certain changes that Abonta’s party, the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, had not implemented in the state.

He claims that some of the things that the administrations of his own party, the PDP, were unable to accomplish while in power include the construction of new roads, the removal of mountains of waste from the streets of Aba, and the recent signing of Abia Old Persons Law by the governor of a law intended to address the healthcare and other needs of the state’s elderly population.

Abonta added that only if they field strong candidates would the PDP and other Abia opposition parties have a chance to unseat Governor Otti in the 2027 election.
