FCT: Nigerians should support Tinubu – Ortom hails Wike’s performance

Samuel Ortom, the former governor of Benue State, has urged Nigerians to put aside their political affinities and back President Bola Tinubu’s administration in its attempts to change the nation, especially through Minister Nyesom Wike’s work in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Ortom and Wike made the call while on an inspection tour of ongoing projects in Abuja.

The former governor, who has been involved in Nigerian politics since 1982 and was a minister under President Goodluck Jonathan, claimed he had never witnessed the degree of infrastructure development currently occurring in the FCT under Wike’s direction.

He said: “Mr. President alone cannot fix Nigeria. We need to join hands with him, irrespective of party affiliations. Let us put politics aside and support what is good.

“I’ve seen several Ministers of the FCT, but this is the first time I am witnessing monumental development in Abuja.

“I am very proud of what my friend and colleague, Nyesom Wike, is doing.”

He commended Tinubu for selecting Wike, a well-known opposition leader, to lead the Federal Capital Territory’s Ministry, putting the interests of the country before of politics.

“If Mr. President was a partisan leader, he wouldn’t have appointed Wike, who is from the opposition. But he saw capacity, and that’s leadership,” Ortom noted.

The former governor expressed his appreciation for the changes occurring around Abuja, such as the installation of world-class bus terminals, significant road building, and the implementation of a painted taxi system that aims to restructure the city’s transportation infrastructure.

“I’ve seen Kugbo and Mabushi terminals these are facilities we usually see abroad. To now see them in our own capital is something to celebrate.”

Despite having lived in the FCT for a long time, Ortom disclosed that he needed a guide to help him navigate the city because of the rapid and extensive changes brought about by Wike.

“I have lived in Abuja since 2008, but with what I see today, I need a guide to move around. That’s how much the city has changed in just one year,” he added.
