The governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, has come under fire from a women leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing him of betraying Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, his predecessor.
Before her suspension, Suleiman, popularly known as Mai Rusau, was the APC Women Leader in the Badarawa/Mailali Ward.
In a viral video, Suleiman recounted how El-Rufai traveled nearly 500 times in 2019 to meet with party leaders at the APC headquarters in Abuja to secure Sani’s election as the 9th National Assembly representative for the Kaduna Central Senatorial District.
Speaking in Hausa, Suleiman stated that El-Rufai fought valiantly and took chances to remove former Senator Shehu Sani so that Uba Sani, who was seen as faithful at the time, could take his place.
Suleiman’s outburst resulted in his suspension from the party, according to a letter dated March 31, 2024, that ZINGTIE was able to get on Monday.
The letter, signed by Saka Bassahuwa, the secretary, and Ali Maishago, the ward chairman, accused Suleiman of grave misconduct for insulting Governor Uba Sani.
Parts of the letter read: “The Badarawa/Mailali Ward APC Executive Committee after due deliberations and careful examination on the viral video clip released on 30th March, 2024 via Social Media network: Facebook, Watshapp, and Tiktok which is against the constitution of our dear party, APC as stated in Article 21.2(v).
“Subsequently, the party relied on defamation of character of his Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Uba Sani.
“Unauthorised Publicity of the party dispute that discredited the personality of the Executive Governor of Kaduna State.
“From today, Sunday 31st March, the leadership of APC in Badarawa/Malali Ward unanimously resolved to suspend Hajiya Maryam Suleiman from the party pending further investigation on the matter from the constituted authority.”
Shehu Sani, the senator representing Kaduna Central, recalled how Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, had blocked him from running for the 9th Senate in an interview with ZINGTIE on Monday.
According to him, El-Rufai prevented him from obtaining a $350 million World Bank loan while he was the chairman of the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts, so he claims he was blocked from returning to the Senate again.
Shehu Sani said that he acted in the best interests of the Kaduna State people because the state was at the time in debt to a greater extent than its revenue.
He said: “As Senate Committee Chairman on Local and Foreign Debts in the 8th Senate, I did block El-Rufai from accessing the sum of $350 million loan after critically analyzing the huge debt that was hanging on the state at the time.
“I did that out of genuine interest for the state and not out of malice, but it became an offence El-Rufai used against me.”
