Members of the All Progressives Congress, or APC, have begun leaving the party in large numbers after disputes over the way the governorship primary election was conducted.
At least six chairmen of local government parties have quit their jobs and departed the party.
In addition, three candidates left the race in protest, and numerous other ward-level party executives have left the party in disapproval of the results, which showed Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu as the victor.
Journalists were given access to their resignation letters, which provided evidence of how the primary election was conducted.
The mass resignations, according to ZINGTIE, were caused by Sir Paul Chukwuma, a former APC candidate who recently defected to the Young Progressives Party (YPP) and was elected, as well as the way the election was conducted.
Leaders and stakeholders in Nnewi South, Nimo in Njikoka LGA, in particular, are among those who left the APC.
Leaders and party executives also resigned from other local government areas, including Dunukofia, Anambra East, Ogbaru, Oyi, and Ihiala.
Tochukwu Okeke, an Ihiala party member who also left, stated, “I’m leaving to join the YPP. Since Chukwuma who has long been the pillar of the party could leave this way, there is no point for us to remain there.
“If they could treat Chukwuma who is a strong stakeholder and benefactor of the party for many years like that, then they have no regard for any of us.”
