The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation has announced five grants totalling $2.7 million to support food access initiatives in Georgia and Montana. The grants aim to address food insecurity and strengthen food systems in response to drastic cuts in federal funding.

For further information, read more details here

The grants will enable food banks to invest in both immediate relief, such as distributing meals to those most at risk, and long-term solutions that promote community health. A portion of the funding will be used to purchase fresh food directly from local growers and producers, benefiting both the recipients and the local food system.

The grants include:

– $1 million to the Atlanta Community Food Bank to distribute food across its 29-county service area

– $1 million to Feeding Georgia, a statewide network supporting seven regional food banks

– $250,000 to the Montana Food Bank Network to expand its capacity to distribute across all 56 counties in Montana

– $250,000 to Hopa Mountain to provide small grants to rural and tribal food pantries

– $200,000 to the Livingston Food Resource Center for general operating support

According to Fay Twersky, president of the Blank Family Foundation, “Food insecurity has a profound impact on individuals and entire communities, especially in moments of heightened need.” Twersky expressed gratitude for the leadership of local food banks, saying, “We are grateful for their leadership and proud to support their continued ability to serve our neighbours with dignity and care despite the loss of $1 billion in federal funding.”

Twersky also called on fellow philanthropic and civic leaders to join the effort, stating, “We invite our fellow philanthropic and civic leaders to join us in rising to this challenge with urgency and generosity.
