The FBI has offered a $10,000 reward for information that could help track down and prosecute Nigerian citizen Olumide Adebiyi Adediran, who is wanted in the U.S. on multiple fraud charges.
According to a notice published on Wednesday via the agency’s official site, Adediran is being sought for alleged involvement in bank fraud, identity theft, and credit card fraud offenses tied to incidents in Illinois dating back to 2001.
Adediran, 56, reportedly used several fake identities, such as Kevin Olumide Adediran, Eric O. Williams, Maxo Alexandre, Olumide Adkins, and Edward N. Anderson. He is accused of attempting to cash counterfeit checks and using stolen personal data of American citizens to open fraudulent financial accounts.
Officials say he fled the Central District of Illinois in December 2001, just ahead of his trial date. A federal warrant was later issued on January 2, 2002, for allegedly breaching the terms of his release.
The FBI statement reads in part:
“Olumide Adebiyi Adediran is wanted for Violation of Conditions of Release. In August of 2001, Adediran allegedly entered a bank in Champaign, Illinois, and attempted to retrieve funds from a deposited fraudulent check.
“He also allegedly used stolen information of United States citizens to open bank and charge accounts. Adediran fled the Central District of Illinois at the end of December 2001, shortly before his trial in the Central District of Illinois was set to begin on federal charges of Bank Fraud, Identification Document Fraud, and Credit Card Fraud.
“On January 2, 2002, a federal arrest warrant was issued for Adediran in the United States District Court, Central District of Illinois, Urbana, Illinois, after he was charged with Violation of Conditions of Release.”
Investigators believe the fugitive may have connections in South Florida , and he continues to feature on the FBI’s most-wanted list.
Adediran is described as 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing about 200 pounds , with black hair and brown eyes.
“The FBI is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Olumide Adebiyi Adediran,” the bureau reiterated, urging anyone with relevant information to contact the nearest FBI office, U.S. embassy, or consulate.
