FG reveals plan to make NYSC a revenue-generating agency

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) will undergo reforms to become a revenue-generating agency, according to proposals revealed by the federal government.

Minister of Youth Development Jamila Bio-Ibrahim made the revelation during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics program.

The minister said the federal government was better reforming the NYSC program to reflect the country’s current state of affairs.

She said they all recognize that resources are limited and emphasized that they will come up with creative solutions to ensure corps members’ welfare is well-cared for.

According to her, “The reforms will transform the NYSC into a revenue-generating agency and prepare the corps members for the job market and to be decently and gainfully employed or to be employers of labour through entrepreneurship all the support they need in that career path.”

She also revealed that, as national instability grew, corps members were no longer assigned to states that were considered dangerous.

The minister clarified that coordination with other government authorities was necessary to protect corps members.
