Nigerians will reject the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the general elections of 2027, according to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which claims that poverty, hunger, and insecurity would be the main topics on the ballot.
Debo Ologunagba, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, told reporters at an interactive session in Abuja on Tuesday that the ruling party will be disappointed because the by-elections last weekend were merely a test run for 2027.
“We don’t call that an election. What the APC did in those by-elections was simply to test the ground for 2027. But I have bad news for them: what happened in those by-elections will not happen in 2027,” Ologunagba said.
He claimed that Nigerians were now more shrewd and would not be influenced by inducements in future elections, accusing the APC of using poverty as a tool to influence votes.
“What happened in those by-elections, will not happen in 2007. Why? Nigerian people are wiser. They are hurting. What will be on the ballot in 2027 will be the hunger, the uncertainty and the insecurity that no money can purchase,” he stressed.
“Nigerian people will defeat them because they brought hunger to this country. For more than 10 years now, APC has been a point of pain to Nigeria.”
The PDP spokesperson further claimed that during the by-elections to fill 16 open state and national assembly seats in 13 states, security forces were being utilized to crack down on opposition members.
The party’s national convention will take place in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, he further stated, dismissing media reports that suggested plans for a parallel PDP convention in Abuja.
“That report is purely speculation. Our party followed due process, and the decision to hold the convention in Ibadan was made at the NEC meeting with INEC in attendance. The process is already underway, and we are currently in Ibadan,” Ologunagba said.
He continued by saying that whenever the APC sees unity inside the PDP, it usually panics.
He emphasized that efforts to instill discontent inside the party would not succeed.
