Former aide, Akande reveals Osinbajo’s political status

Former vice president Yemi Osinbajo’s spokesperson, Mr. Laolu Akande, asserts that there is no need for anyone to believe that Osinbajo has resigned from the All Progressives Congress, or APC, or quit politics altogether.

This claim was made by Akande in a Lagos interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, on Sunday.

Recall that since leaving office in 2023, Osinbajo has not been engaged in many political circles, leading to rumours that he may have abandoned politics and the APC.

According to ZINGTIE, the former vice president lost to President Bola Tinubu in the 2022 APC primaries, failing to secure the party’s ticket.

Between 1999 to 2007, while Tinubu was governor of Lagos State, he held the positions of Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.

Osinbajo’s loss in the APC primary has been blamed by some political observers for his withdrawal from politics, while others think he is spending less time in politics now that he has been appointed Global Advisor for the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet, or GEAPP.

Akande responded that he would not include Osinbajo in his own assessment when questioned about the political views of his former headmaster.

He claims that Osinbajo never told him that he was leaving politics and that, as far as he knows, he is still an APC member.

Akande added that Osinbajo would be present at any APC event that needed him.

“I don’t want to get the man (Osinbajo) involved in my own commentary, but there is no reason to think that he is no longer in the APC. He is still a member of the APC.

“If he gets an invitation to the caucus, you know, he will be there. I don’t think he has left the party,” Akande said.
