The Anchorage-based Rasmuson Foundation has announced grants totaling $1.26 million to organizations in 26 Alaska communities.

A total of 50 Tier 1 projects were awarded funding, and one-third of the recipient organizations were first-time grantees. The foundation’s Tier 1 grants are intended for one-time expenses that organizations can buy, build, fix, or create with.

Some of the most popular grant requests across all areas of Alaska were to cover elements of infrastructure like boilers and septic systems.

Four Winds Resource Center was awarded $4,000 for its community tool library, which helps residents access power tools.

In addition, the Native Village of Gambell will receive $25,025 to conduct an assessment survey to lay the groundwork for language revitalization efforts.

“We’re proud to further expand our network of grant partners across the state,” said Rasmuson Foundation vice president of programs Chris Perez.

“Tier 1s are some of our favorite grants because they can make a quick impact. Often considered our small grants, organizations have demonstrated that these amounts continue to make a big difference.”
