Foundation Commits $7 Million to Improve Maternal and Infant Healthcare

The United Health Foundation has announced over $7 million in new grant partnerships to boost access to maternal and infant healthcare. These grants aim to bridge gaps in care for women and children, with a focus on growing and supporting the doula workforce in Georgia, Michigan, New Mexico, and Wisconsin.

The grants include $2 million to South Georgia Healthy Start to build on their expanded prenatal and postpartum services, $1.2 million to Birth Detroit to help launch the city’s first freestanding birth centre, $1.5 million to Meta House to increase specialised healthcare services for pregnant, postpartum, and parenting women experiencing substance use disorder, and $1.5 million to La Clinica de Familia to expand prenatal and gynaecologic services to more health centres in southern New Mexico.

“Ensuring the health of women and children is crucial for building strong communities nationwide,” said UnitedHealthcare national medical director of maternal child health Lisa S. “Our commitment to improving health outcomes is essential to our mission of helping people live healthier lives and helping make the health system work better for everyone.”

The foundation is also committing $1 million to five nonprofits focused on growing the doula workforce, including HealthConnect One, Just Birth Space, Atlanta Doula Collective, New Mexico Doula Association, and African American Breastfeeding Network.

These grants demonstrate the foundation’s commitment to improving maternal and infant health outcomes, aligning with its mission to help people live healthier lives and make the healthcare system work better for everyone
