Four sentenced to death over Kano garage owner’s murder

Four men were given hanging death sentences by a Kano State High Court for the murder of Rilwanu Ilyasu, also known as Nanu, a mechanic who operated a garage in Kano’s Farawa Layout.

Yusuf Sani, Nasiru Sani, Abdulmajid Jibrin, and Abubakar Sadiq (also known as Alhaji Sallari) are the accused.

According to Sections 97 and 221(b) of the Penal Code, both were found guilty of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide. Dan Bayo and Nura Farin Boss, two further suspects, are still at large.

The prosecution’s lead attorney, Barrister Safiya Yalwati, stated that the defendants broke into Ilyasu’s house on the evening of April 13, 2016, carrying an axe and other lethal weapons.

She went on to say that concerns that Ilyasu had given information to NDLEA agents, which resulted in the first defendant’s detention and the recovery of N27,000 and illegal substances, were the driving force behind the assault.

Ilyasu was fatally injured in the incident. Eight witnesses were brought by the prosecution, which also displayed important evidence, such as the murder weapon.

The court sentenced the four men to death by hanging after considering the evidence.

In response to the decision, Abdulkarim Maude Kabir SAN, the Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, stated through his media assistant Abubakar Tijjani Ibrahim that the ruling reflects the Kano State Ministry of Justice’s steadfast dedication to making sure that justice is carried out in compliance with the law.
