Hamas has agreed to release Edan Alexander, the last living American hostage held in Gaza.
Alexander was serving in the IDF’s Golani Brigade, an infantry unit near Gaza, when Hamas began its attacks on Israel.
Fox News reports that Alexander, a 21-year-old Israeli-American, will be released along with the bodies of four other hostages, following a deal mediated by third parties.
Born in Israel a few months before his parents moved to the US, Alexander grew up in New Jersey, according to the American Jewish Committee.
After high school, he chose to enlist in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) instead of attending college.
A video of Alexander, speaking in Hebrew and Arabic, was released by Hamas on November 30 last year, over a year after his capture.
