The College of William & Mary has received a $15 million gift from alumnus Rob W. Estes and his wife, Jean Berger Estes, both graduates of the university. The donation will establish the Estes Centre for Excellence in Accounting at the Raymond A. Mason School of Business.
The centre aims to attract top students to the accounting programme by utilising the school’s strengths, faculty, and the university’s reputation for business education. It will offer career development programmes, including weekend seminars and “career treks”, as well as a network of alumni and corporate partners.
The centre will also leverage data analytics and new technologies to prepare students for leadership roles. Rob Estes, COO of Estes Express Lines, serves on the W&M Board of Visitors and the business school board, while Jean Berger Estes is a member of the W&M Alumni Association Board and a former W&M Foundation trustee.
Business school dean Todd Mooradian expressed enthusiasm about the gift, saying, “We now have a sustainable centre of excellence at the Mason School of Business that will attract the best and brightest students to William & Mary.” He added, “These students will experience how accounting today is so much more than number-crunching. It is a dynamic, decision-making paradigm…that holds implications for strategy touching nearly every business function.
