Nigerians should reject unethical political behavior, according to former President Goodluck Jonathan, who said that politicians won’t act ethically until the people demand it.

In addition to criticizing Nigeria’s election security and calling for police-led electoral supervision, as is the case in Botswana and Senegal, he proposed a “hall of shame” for corrupt presidents.

Goodluck Jonathan, the former president, has underlined that individuals must actively oppose unethical behavior before Nigeria’s political class will shift.

During a book event in Abuja, Jonathan attacked the nation’s electoral system, saying that corruption continues because people accept and even applaud wrongdoing.

Jonathan proposed establishing a “hall of shame” to identify former presidents who exacerbated Nigeria’s problems and make sure that future generations are aware of their detrimental effects.

He emphasized that politicians will be compelled to behave responsibly once Nigerians reject corruption.

Jonathan mentioned Nigeria’s over-reliance on the military for election-related tasks when speaking about election security.

In contrast, he said, police personnel in nations like Botswana and Senegal are in charge of electoral security, freeing up the military to concentrate on more general national defense.

He also emphasized how ineffectual technology is at stopping election corruption, noting that electoral fraud persists in spite of technical developments.

Jonathan urged Nigerians to expect accountability and integrity from their leaders on a collective basis, calling for a change in society.

His comments highlight the growing apprehension over Nigeria’s democratic process and the necessity of reforms to guarantee free and fair elections.
