Gov Alia signs 10 bills into law in Benue

Ten bills just passed by the Benue State House of Assembly have been signed into law by Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, the governor of Benue State.

The bills were presented to Governor Alia for approval on Tuesday at the Government House, Makurdi’s Old Banquet Hall.

He clarified that the rules were designed to safeguard the Benue people’s safety and ensure outsiders don’t violate their civic rights.

The new laws prohibit, among other things, harassment, extortion of money from land developers (Marching Ground), violent and fraudulent conduct about landed properties, and other things. A Law to Make Provisions for Benue State Drug and Health Commodities Management Agency and Other Matters Connected in addition to that 2024 is one of the new laws.

Governor Alia counseled the people of the state to put aside politics when it came to law and order after signing the bills.

Governor Alia stated that the laws he signed had nothing to do with Labour, the APC, the PDP, the APGA, or any other political party.

He said he had put laws into place to teach the people that Benue is their home and that they should take care of it and carry on their authenticity, legitimacy, honesty, and truth to coming generations.

Governor Alia said there had been no tampering with the ranches establishment law or the existing open grazing prohibition.

He also warned against intra- and inter-state crises and stated that his administration intended to ensure Benue State would always be at peace.

Alia urged traditional leaders to take all necessary steps to guarantee that their communities experience lasting peace once more.

Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh presented the bills to the governor, stating that they were evidence of the 10th Assembly’s dedication to enacting laws that would benefit the state’s citizens.

No portion of the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law was abolished, as previously stated by Barr. Fidelis Bemsen Mnyim, the Benue State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Public Order.
