Gov Mutfwang states the way to get justice for wedding guests killed

Plateau State Governor, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, has once again pledged that justice will be served for the families of the wedding guests who lost their lives after being attacked by a mob in the Mangun District of Mangu Local Government Area last month. The victims had been en route to a wedding in Quan Pa’an Local Government Area.

The group, traveling from Zaria in Kaduna State, reportedly lost their way and ended up in Mangun. Mistaken for insurgents, they were ambushed by a mob, resulting in the deaths of approximately 22 individuals, while 11 others sustained injuries during the incident.

While reaffirming his government’s commitment to ensuring justice for the deceased, Governor Mutfwang mentioned that his administration is collaborating with authorities in Kaduna State to develop mutually acceptable solutions.

Speaking during an interview with the BBC Hausa Service on Saturday, Mutfwang expressed concern, stating that “conflicts related to the deep-rooted hatred between followers of different religions and ethnic groups, which sometimes involve innocent travelers, cannot be ended in a short period of time.”

Nevertheless, he emphasized that steps are already being taken by his administration to address the tragic event and secure justice for the affected families.

As part of the efforts, the governor revealed that a ‘special delegation’ headed by the Emir of Wase had been dispatched to extend condolences to the Emir of Zaria, the community from which the victims originated.

“The current situation is that around 22 people are being held over the attack and we have confirmed that those who were injured have returned home safely.

“And we are currently in contact with the leaders of Zaria to advise us on how to help the bereaved families and those who are sick,” Gov. Mutfwang said.
