Gov Otti dethrones traditional ruler in Abia

The Abia State Government has ousted HRM Eze Edward Ebere Eule, the traditional ruler of the Azumini autonomous community in Ukwa East LGA.

The state government has officially removed the traditional ruler from his position as the head of his community. The traditional ruler was suspended from office in February 2024 due to allegations of misconduct and actions unworthy of a traditional ruler.

Governor Alex Otti has authorized the withdrawal of Eze Eule’s staff of office and certificate of recognition, according to a press statement signed by Uzor Nwachukwu, the Abia State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

According to the press release, Eze Ebere Eule is accused of refusing to follow the instructions in a letter of suspension that was given to him on February 23, 2024, in accordance with sections 12, 14, and 20 of the Abia State Traditional Rulers and Autonomous Communities Amended Number 2 Law 2018. This is why the staff of the office and the certificate of recognition were withdrawn.

In his statement, the commissioner said that the traditional ruler’s dismissal was due to accusations of wrongdoing against the former traditional ruler, which prompted the Abia State Government to appoint an inquiry panel to investigate the matter.

The statement confirmed that the commission indicted Eze Edward Ebere.

The statement instructed the deposed monarch to stop presenting himself as the Azumini Autonomous Community’s traditional ruler and to return the office supplies and certificate of recognition given to him within 14 days of the announcement.

The statement further confirmed that the dismissed traditional ruler no longer has any rights or privileges of any kind.
