Grant Funding brings hope to Western NC Communities affected by Hurricane

In a significant boost to Western North Carolina’s recovery efforts, the Center for Disaster Philanthropy (CDP) and the Truist Foundation have announced nearly $3.3 million in grants to support medium- and long-term needs in the region. These grants aim to strengthen housing and small businesses affected by Hurricane Helene, which devastated the area in September 2024.

– Mountain BizWorks, which will receive $1 million to support the long-term recovery and sustainability of small businesses in western North Carolina.

– Invest Appalachia, which will receive $1 million to support community investment activities.

– Mountain Housing Opportunities, which will receive $1 million to support housing recovery efforts.

– SeekHealing, which will receive $275,000 to provide community-led emotional and practical support, mental health and social wellness training, and recovery navigation

“We are thrilled to support these incredible organizations as they work tirelessly to rebuild and strengthen our community,” said a representative from the Truist Foundation.

The CDP and the Truist Foundation partnered in January 2025 to create the $20 million Truist Foundation Western North Carolina Recovery and Resiliency Fund, demonstrating their commitment to supporting the region’s recovery efforts. These grants mark a crucial step towards helping Western North Carolina recover and thrive in the face of adversity.
