Gumi reveals details of meeting with security agents

Controversial Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi revealed that he and security agencies held a fruitful meeting about how to stop bandits and their operations in the North.

Gumi will be invited for questioning regarding the operations of bandits in the North, according to Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and Orientation.

Gumi would be reprimanded if security agencies found his remarks to be reckless, the minister had said, adding that he was not above the law.

The Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, however, insisted that only the innocent were exempt from the law.

Gumi stated on his Facebook page on Tuesday that “Only one person is above the law: the innocent.

“Last night, I got many frantic calls from well-wishers and journalists about a news item that I was interviewed by security. There is absolutely no cause for alarm.

“Yes, we had a productive interaction on how to curb banditry as we are all trying — each in his own sphere — to tackle the monster bedevilling the nation. There was no animosity but courtesy and full of respect.

“We all need as a nation to unite and work in synergy to achieve an everlasting peace.”

Recently, Gumi pleaded with President Bola Tinubu to join him in negotiations with bandits.
