In Mushin, Lagos, several Muslim scholars working under the auspices of the League of Islamic Leaders have set up a market named the Market of Convenience (MFC), where special discounts will be offered on food items.
According to NAN, the scholars conducted a one-day awareness-raising event in Lagos on Sunday regarding the necessity for Muslims to accept the market.
Alhaji Musoddiq Sanni, the program’s convener and MFC chairman, asked religious leaders to support the market.
According to Sanni, the market was started by the Muslim community as a way to help address Nigeria’s economic problems.
The MFC would provide Lagos citizens with an alternate market, according to the chairman.
“This is where they can do shopping for food items,” he said.
He said he hoped the market will help Lagos citizens who are struggling financially.
“There is a need for a platform like this MFC. Allah has commanded us in the Qur’an to maintain justice and fairness during business transactions.”
Sanni suggested that Muslim leaders in Ikeja open a market branch there to lower the cost of food for the local population.
The significance of corporative societies was stressed by him.
He asserted that the League of Islamic Leaders would develop a plan for market operations that complies with Sharia (Islamic law).
“We have registered the Market of Convenience with the Corporate Affairs Commission and the Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture.”
Alhaji Sulaimon Olanijo, the chairman of the League of Islamic Leaders in Mushin, Lagos, encouraged other Muslim organisations to accept the new market system.
He claimed that this would boost the federal government’s food security objective and lessen the suffering that Muslim communities face.
According to Olanijo, it would be feasible to create an Islamic food market in different areas with the support of Muslim leaders.
Alhaji Abdul-Rahmon Abdul-Azeez, Chairman of the Council of Imams, Ikeja Division, praised the program’s organiser.
Abdul-Azeez claimed that food prices have significantly grown and that utilising the Market of Convenience’s potential would significantly lessen poverty in Nigeria.
