Following the extended adjournment of Nnamdi Kanu’s court case, Maxwell Opara, a human rights activist and Kanu’s attorney, talked to reporters. He clarified in a YouTube video that Kanu asked his legal team to step aside and decided to represent himself.

Maxwell said, “As a lawyer, we have our rules of ethics, and you discover that when we are trying to calm him down, he said that we should sit down and walk away, that we should not represent him again. So he decided, So he’s not a lawyer, and I think the judge and the federal government understand because many people have applied to the federal government.”

According to Opara, a number of organizations, like as Afenifere and Ohanaeze Ndigbo, have encouraged the federal government to release Kanu for peace in order to settle the dispute politically. He emphasized that the judge must address a standing court order and asserted that in order to restore jurisdiction over the matter, the judge has the power to set aside the order.

He added, “The Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the Afenifere, and many other persons have applied and begged the federal government, please, use political means to resolve this matter by releasing Nnamdi Kanu so that we have peace. And now the judge, on the issue of the judging, there is a subsisting court order; that’s what Nnamdi Kanu is saying. One expected the judge to, first of all, set aside that order. You give the order; you have the right to set aside the order, and even that, to set aside the order, you have now given way for you to have jurisdiction into the matter.”
