Sarauniya Multipurpose Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), in collaboration with the Nasarawa Emirate Council, has offered free medical services to 1200 residents of the Nasarawa local government area in Nasarawa state. The two-day free medical outreach, held in the Nasarawa local government area, aimed to provide healthcare services to residents, especially the less privileged with health challenges.
Chief Executive Officer of the NGO, Hajiya Maryam Ibrahim, commended the beneficiaries for embracing the initiative and assured that her organisation would continuously organise more free medical outreaches for people in the area and across the state. “The free medical outreach is a commendable initiative that aims to provide healthcare services to the residents of the area, most especially the less privileged who have health challenges,” she said.
The Chairman of Nasarawa local government area, Alhaji Mohammed Ahmed, praised the gesture, saying it would go a long way in alleviating medical challenges faced by many in the area. “It was a laudable gesture because it was a long overdue initiative,” he said. “The foundation has put smiles on the faces of the less privileged who are medically challenged.
The coordinator of the outreach, Dr. Jabir Jibril, revealed that 1200 beneficiaries had been attended to, with 57 receiving eye surgeries and 300 getting eyeglasses. “We have dispensed 300 glasses, and the target was to dispense 300 glasses. So right now the glasses are exhausted. We have also dewormed 750 patients,” he said.
A beneficiary, Miss Kezia Joseph, appreciated the organisers of the medical outreach, saying it had helped tackle several medical challenges of many residents. “All the services rendered are free and very okay. They ran several tests for different ailments and gave drugs. I really appreciate the organiser because since my childhood this is the first time I am witnessing this kind of effort,” she said.
The CEO of the NGO also gave out N10,000 each to 250 women during the event. In attendance were prominent individuals, including the Emir of Nasarawa, Alhaji Ibrahim Jibril, and the Nasarawa State first lady, Hajiya Silifat Abdullahi Sule, represented by the former Secretary to the State Government, Hajiya Dr. Zainab Ahmed.
