Virginia Mason Franciscan Health in Seattle has announced a significant investment in the community, awarding grants totaling $1.7 million to 27 nonprofits across the Puget Sound region.
The grants, which mark the second year of funding through the hospital system’s Community Health Improvement Grants program, aim to support local community partners in their efforts to improve healthcare access, behavioral health, chronic disease diagnosis and treatment, and violence prevention.
A key focus of the grants is on underrepresented and underserved populations, ensuring that the most vulnerable members of the community receive the support they need. This includes initiatives that address health disparities, promote health equity, and provide essential services to marginalized communities.
Among the recipients are several organizations making a tangible impact in the region, including the American Heart Association, which received $99,785 to support cardiovascular health initiatives; ROOTS Young Adult Shelter, which received $100,000 to provide critical services for homeless youth; and the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties, which received $89,600 to promote healthy lifestyles and disease prevention.
Other notable recipients include the Refugee Women’s Alliance, which received $50,000 to support refugee families and individuals; Key Peninsula Healthy Community, which received $100,000 to promote community health and wellness; and the Emergency Food Network, which received $75,000 to address food insecurity and provide essential nutrition services.
“At Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, we’re deeply committed to the well-being of our communities,” said Ketul J. Patel, CEO of the hospital system. “This investment reflects our mission to improve health and advance social justice, directly supporting the incredible work these local organizations do to strengthen families and communities across the Puget Sound region.”
Patel’s statement underscores the hospital system’s dedication to addressing the unique needs of the community and promoting health equity. By partnering with local nonprofits, Virginia Mason Franciscan Health aims to create a lasting, positive impact on the lives of individuals and families across the region.
