The Conrad N. Hilton Foundation has launched the Anna Trust, a Rome-based nonprofit dedicated to supporting the healthy and dignified aging of Catholic sisters globally. The trust was established with a $15 million grant from the foundation and will focus on supporting aging sisters in underserved communities, where access to healthcare and social services is often limited.

According to research supported by the foundation, many Catholic congregations are unprepared to care for their aging sisters. In the United States, for example, 80% of sisters are over 70 years old, yet most congregations lack the resources to provide adequate care. This shortage of resources can lead to inadequate healthcare, social isolation, and decreased quality of life for these dedicated women.

To address this issue, the trust plans to fund 100 grants that will support 10,000 sisters worldwide. The grants will also provide training modules tailored to elder care, educating 5,000 sisters in the process. These training modules will cover topics such as gerontology, caregiving, and healthcare management. Additionally, the trust will launch a longitudinal study to document the impact of its grantmaking efforts and identify best practices in elder care for Catholic sisters.

The trust aims to raise an additional $15 million to support its endowment and operational costs. This initiative is part of the Hilton Foundation’s Catholic Sisters initiative, which seeks to support strong and sustainable congregations, effective services, and collaboration among Catholic sisters worldwide.

“My grandfather, Conrad N. Hilton, had profound respect and admiration for the Catholic sisters, who work tirelessly to transform the lives of children, youth, and families living in disadvantaged conditions,” said Linda Hilton, board chair of the Hilton Foundation. “The Hilton Foundation’s Catholic Sisters initiative enthusiastically continues his legacy by supporting strong and sustainable congregations, effective services, and collaboration among Catholic sisters worldwide.”
