A non-governmental organisation, IA-Foundation, has enrolled 100 street children in Mafoluku, Oshodi, Lagos State, into schools as part of its Children’s Day outreach. The initiative aims to provide access to education for vulnerable children in underserved communities.

The organisation’s founder and CEO, Ibironke Adeagbo, said the decision to take children off the streets was driven by the need to tackle rising poverty and insecurity.

“We cannot afford to ignore these children. Leaving them on the streets only increases poverty and insecurity in the country,” Adeagbo said. She urged more collaboration between NGOs and the government to fulfil Sustainable Development Goal 4, which focuses on inclusive and quality education for all.

The foundation’s outreach introduced the 100 children to a safe space where they were inspired through talks on the power of education. “These children who have been left to navigate life on their own, were encouraged to dream beyond their present conditions,” Adeagbo added.

The IA-Foundation remains committed to breaking the cycle of poverty through education and is calling on stakeholders to invest more in keeping children in school
