How I inspired P-Square, other Nigerian artists – Solidstar

The Edo State Police Command has rescued Reverend Canon Tony Mukoro from suspected kidnappers. DAILY POST reports that the victim was abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers at Isihor community in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of the state while returning home in his car. The Public Relations Officer of the command, Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Benin City. According to him, the divisional police officer in charge of Ugbowo division, Benin City, Edo State, received information that hoodlums accosted and kidnapped the cleric as he was about to drive his Toyota Highlander, with registration number BEN 822 SR, into his house at Isihor community. “Operatives of the division immediately swung into action and intercepted the vehicle. They engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel. The hoodlums fled during the crossfire and the victim was rescued unhurt,” he said. He said one AK-47 rifle, one expended AK-47 shell, two pump-action guns, 14 live cartridges, one cap and a bag were recovered from the suspects. He added that efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.

Joshua Iniyezo, also known by his stage name Solidstar, an embattled artist, has claimed that his successful song “One In A Million” spawned a new sound in the Nigerian music business.

He claimed that because of his distinct musical taste, many people believed he was Ghanaian when he first became famous.

Solidstar explicitly said that P-Square’s smash song “Possibility,” which featured the same artist, was inspired by the remix of the song with 2Baba in a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast.

He said, “It was ‘One In A Million’ that paved the way for me in the music industry. I won the Best New Artist at the Nigerian Music Video Awards with the song. Many even thought I was Ghanaian, they didn’t know I’m Nigerian because my style then was different.

“It was my song [‘One In A Million’] that changed the sound of the Nigerian music industry. It was also the inspiration behind P-Square’s ‘Possibility’ featuring 2Baba.

“The song changed the Nigerian music industry. It came with its unique style. I slowed the tempo down and everyone started copying that pattern.”
