Dr. Salihu Lukman, a former National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the North-West region, has alleged that prominent opposition figures in Nigeria have significantly contributed to the country’s current political challenges.

According to Lukman, opposition leaders and politicians who were displaced due to their roles in previous administrations should acknowledge their failures and step aside to facilitate the formation of a strong coalition that can strengthen Nigerian politics.

In a statement released on Sunday, Lukman asserted that many of these politicians would be regarded as accomplices to the current political crisis, regardless of whether their involvement occurred before or after the crisis.

Lukman expressed disappointment that numerous opposition politicians and displaced individuals with ambitions are deeply implicated in the political mess and lack the credentials necessary to emerge as better leaders.

Lukman noted: “Given their records of service, they are most likely to be worse than former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan, Muhammadu Buhari and now President Tinubu.

“Based on their records, they exhibit intolerant dispositions and poor relationships on accounts of which they have mismanaged their transitions and are today hardly in control of political structures in their states.

“Some of them, on account of their influential roles in past administrations and the failures of those administrations, should be humble enough to take a backseat in an effort to build a strong coalition to strengthen Nigerian politics. Instead, it is more like a case of unrepentant show of shame.”
