Back then, I wasn’t employed. He informed my family and me that he has no intention of getting married in court.

My parents attempted to speak with him; I sobbed and pleaded with him multiple times to make our marriage lawful, but he refused to marry me in front of a judge.

I asked his family for assistance in pleading with him, but they thought he was grown enough to make his own decisions.

We ultimately decided to just have a traditional marriage as he even refused to perform a white wedding when my church asked for a court certificate.

Later, I grew weary of the situation and gave up. Despite my sorrow and brokenness, I made the decision to marry him in that way in order to rescue my family and myself the shame of having a baby outside wedlock.

My dad pledged to see me become a successful, independent lady with or without him because he didn’t care that I was upset and disappointed with him.

My dad assisted me in landing a position with a multinational corporation after I gave birth, and that’s when things started to get better for me.

I could finally provide for my future and take care of myself.

Even after we were married, I never truly felt like I could forgive him, which prevented me from taking any action in my husband’s honour.

Together, we currently have three children, yet my children own all of my properties. Nor did I ever use him as my next of kin.

My company chose just last month to move me to a branch in Texas, and they will pay for my whole family to move with me.

My husband is eager to move as well because his business is struggling, but we don’t have a legal certificate to prove our marital status.

He now wants us to appear in court to have our marriage formally recognised, and I have refused.

My father has threatened to disown me if I ever follow him to court.

He has been publicly labelling me as a horrible woman who deceives her husband and spoiling my family.

I’ve been receiving calls from his family members attempting to convince me.
