Popular Nigerian Afrobeat artist, Rema, has shared his positive outlook on facing online criticism, saying he feels pleased when he’s trolled on social media.
In a video interview circulated online, Rema explained that he welcomes the trolling because of the opportunities and advantages it brings to his career.
Reflecting on his rise in the music industry, he pointed out that the constant online backlash has actually contributed to his international recognition and artistic development.
Rema, who faced doubts early in his career due to his distinctive sound, emphasized how unfortunate it would have been if he had allowed negative feedback to derail his goals and vision.
He said, “It is beautiful to see something that people troll and criticise me for. And, you know what? I’m benefiting from that. Imagine if I had stopped or listened to trolls. Like if I should say oh, I think I should switch it off.
“And four years later, it paid and it paid. And more to come. You know, because it’s a huge territory, right? And I was actually the first Afrobeat to tour India. And I even came from Africa if I’m not mistaken. But it is a huge deal.”
