Ben Ukeji, spokesperson for Citizens for Good Governance in Democracy, has stated that the charge against Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara of failing to submit a budget to the State Assembly is unfounded.

Ukeji claimed this on Thursday when answering questions during an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’, which ZINGTIE monitors.

He said, “When you look at it, even as from all the arguments, Section 122 of the Nigeria’s 1999 constitution (as amended), provides that the governor has the responsibility or the right to spend a portion of the budget for a period of six months.

“The budget they are talking about in the entire administration of Fubara is the budget of 2025, and his tenure was truncated by the declaration of a state of emergency.”

According to ZINGTIE, the State Assembly launched impeachment procedures against Fubara on Thursday for a variety of reasons, including the alleged failure to submit a budget to the State Assembly.
