The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kebbi State recently organized a stakeholders’ roundtable to boost engagement in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
Resident Electoral Commissioner Abubakar Sarkin Pawa Dambo explained that the purpose of the forum was to gather feedback and address concerns from political parties, civil society organizations, and the media.
He emphasized the commission’s dedication to ensuring a seamless registration process and called for collective efforts to promote inclusivity.
During the meeting, some attendees requested an extension of the registration period and better logistical arrangements to help registrants reach the designated centers. Others highlighted the importance of increased public sensitization to raise participation levels.
Dambo clarified that while every Nigerian aged 18 and above has the right to register to vote, INEC is not tasked with providing transportation to registration sites. He suggested that local leaders might voluntarily assist their communities if needed.
The event took place at the INEC Collation Hall in Birnin Kebbi and included representatives from political parties such as the APC and PDP, civil society groups, the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), and members of the press.
