Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, stated on Wednesday that the country has implemented a strategy to restrict humanitarian assistance to Gaza as part of efforts to weaken Hamas’ influence over the local population.
This statement followed a visit to Gaza alongside Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and top military officials. Katz explained that this approach is part of a broader military objective aimed at freeing hostages and ultimately dismantling Hamas.
“Israel’s policy is clear, no humanitarian aid is about to enter Gaza. No one is currently preparing or intending to bring any humanitarian aid into Gaza under the current circumstances,’’ he emphasized.
On March 2, Israel reinstated its blockade, halting the delivery of essential items including food, fuel, water, medicine, and other supplies.
Netanyahu indicated that the blockade was designed to pressure Hamas into agreeing to a deal that would prolong the initial phase of the ceasefire and release of hostages—without obligating Israel to stop its military campaign.
Katz stated that cutting off aid is intended to erode Hamas’ control and eventually enable aid distribution through private firms without the group’s involvement.
He noted that Israeli forces continue to target Hamas fighters and infrastructure without pause, while also preparing for the next stages of their military plan.
The minister added that the army will retain its hold on territories it has taken and will remain active in designated “security zones” throughout Gaza.
He cautioned that if Hamas refuses Israel’s proposed conditions for a hostage exchange, the military operation will escalate and move forward into further phases.
Health officials based in Gaza report that Israeli military actions have resulted in over 51,000 deaths in the region since the conflict started.
