North Abia A political resolution to the legal dispute between Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and the Federal Government has been demanded by Senator Orji Uzor-Kalu.

In an interview with Sunday Politics, a Channels Television program that ZINGTIE watches, Uzor-Kalu made the request.

His remarks are made in light of Kanu’s recent conviction for terrorism-related offenses by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The legislator claims that he has been discussing the IPOB leader’s situation with the federal government.

“The problem of Nnamdi Kanu is what we need to solve via a political process. I have been working with the Federal Government of Nigeria on how to solve this issue, and nobody should question the decision of Justice Omotosho,” he added.

He stated that he would speak with Attorney General Lateef Fagbemi to counsel the President on the issue at hand, while Kanu’s legal team will go to the Appeal Court to contest the Federal High Court decision.

The former governor of Abia state bemoaned the fact that IPOB’s activities in the South-East caused many people to lose their employment and means of subsistence, emphasizing that the group’s efforts have murdered hundreds of Igbo in the area.

The senator clarified that he had put pressure on Muhammadu Buhari, the president at the time, to make Kanu’s release possible in April 2017.

He recognized the contributions made by Mamman Daura and Abubakar Malami, the Federation’s Attorney General at the time, in getting Kanu released from custody so he could stand trial.

“I know the pressure I personally put on President Buhari before he was released in April 2017. Nobody is talking about the Igbo who were killed,” he added.
