Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has called on music stars Wizkid and Tiwa Savage to lend their voices to the ongoing push for justice in the case of the late singer Mohbad.

According to her, Mohbad drew inspiration from leading artists like them in his journey to becoming a musician.

Ojo stressed that it would be unjust for prominent figures in the industry to remain silent while younger talents who admire and follow their paths are left unprotected.

During a recent Instagram live session with her followers, she emphasized the need for the Nigerian music scene to shield its rising stars from the exploitation and challenges that past legends such as Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, and 2Baba endured at the hands of record labels and authorities.

She said, “Wizkid and Tiwa Savage, I need you. These young boys, they come from the slums and ghettos just like most of you did, and they were inspired by you guys to become artists. And they have so much talent. Music is one of the talents that has put Nigeria on the map… These children are making us proud.

“Nigeria is blessed with talents, and we cannot allow any cult or anyone pull them down. We cannot allow anybody pull those children down because their music is what’s giving us joy… We will not allow what Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, and 2Baba went through in the hands of record label executives and the authorities to happen to new generational artists.”

Meanwhile, rapper and label head Naira Marley has continued to deny any involvement in the passing of his former signee, Mohbad.

A recent ruling by a court in Lagos State dismissed a case filed by Mohbad’s father against Naira Marley and associate Sam Larry, citing a lack of sufficient evidence to connect them to the incident.

However, the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death remains unresolved two years later.
