Yusif Abdullahi Ata, the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, has cautioned Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the New Nigeria’s Peoples Party’s (NNPP) 2023 presidential candidate, from “making contemptuous statements on the ongoing Kano Emirate Council legal tussles.”
In reference to the legal activities of the Kano Emirate Council, the minister asked Senator Kwankwaso to “refrain from making statements that could deepen divisions in the country and lead him to contempt of court with regards to the Kano Emirate Council legal actions.”
Ata made the comments in reaction to Kwankwaso’s claims that Lagos meddled in the choice of Kano’s emir.
He cautioned that Kwankwaso’s comments might be interpreted as contempt of court and stated that “the issue of the Kano Emirate is still pending in court.”
At Skylight University’s convocation, Senator Kwankwaso had said, “Today, we can see very clearly there is a lot of effort from the Lagos axis to polarize this part of the country… Lagos wouldn’t allow us to choose our Emir.”
Ata responded, stating, “My remarks underscore the need for leaders to act responsibly to foster unity, rather than causing disharmony and creating uncertainty among the citizens.”
