Katsina: Pregnant woman dies after health worker allegedly refuses to accept bank transfer

At the Turai Umaru Musa Yar’adua Maternity and Children Hospital in Katsina State, a pregnant lady known only as Aisha Najamu passed away when a medical staff member allegedly insisted on using cash exclusively and refused to accept a bank transfer for oxygen services.

According to reports, the incident happened on Monday after the sufferer was admitted to the hospital in severe condition and needed immediate breathing support.

In accordance with the hospital’s internal policy that forbids transfers, an eyewitness told Channels Television on Friday that the on-duty cashier refused to provide a receipt or process payment because the deceased lacked cash.

According to reports, a guy who tried to step in begged the cashier to authorize a transfer so the woman could receive treatment, but the cashier said that staff members had to follow hospital protocol, which severely prohibited bank transfers.

The witness also stated that he offered to pay an extra fee out of compassion and then showed a $100 note to cover the expense, but the cashier still declined. The woman cried out for assistance until she passed away at approximately 11:30 p.m., according to the witness, who described the incident as extremely upsetting.

When contacted, the hospital administration stated that they had not yet received an official public complaint about the problem.

Cashier Aminu Kofar-Bai, a hospital representative, offered condolences and promised that management will pay the family a visit and look into any staff members who were found to have been careless.

The hospital does not have point-of-sale systems and only accepts cash payments, according to hospital officials who justified their payment approach by pointing out that the Katsina State Government’s TSA guidelines forbid accepting transfers into personal accounts.
