A hippopotamus that has been causing problems for certain communities in Adamawa State’s southern region has been apprehended.
Some young people in the nearby Shelleng Local Government region caught the animal that killed a young man in Banjiram village, Guyuk Local Government Area, after it wandered into the region.
It was reported that floods had forced the hippopotamus out of its normal habitat close to Shelleng’s Kiri Dam.
Rivers were overflowing their banks as a result of the flood, distressing both people and animals.
After a young man was killed by a hippopotamus in Banjiram on July 28, 2025, residents raised the alarm, which prompted attempts to destroy the animal.
