Lady fakes own kidnap with boyfriend, collects N3m ransom from parents

Nmesoma Josephine Nwoye, a 23-year-old lady, is accused of staging her own kidnapping to demand money from her parents.

According to information obtained by ZINGTIE, her lover, Chibuike Ogbu, 24, conspired to carry out the fake kidnapping.

Anambra State Police Command agents detained both suspects on Friday, recovering N1.2 million from them as part of the ransom that the young woman’s parents had previously paid.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, revealed this in a press release.

Ikenga disclosed that the suspects had first sought a ransom of N15 million from Nmesoma’s parents but had ultimately agreed to pay N3 million, which was deposited into her account. However, specifics regarding the arrest site, the crime scene, and the victims’ place of origin were not disclosed.

The statement read: “The suspects identified as Nmesoma Josephine Nwoye, female, aged 23 years, and Chibuike Ogbu, male, aged 24 years, were arrested after intelligence-led operations uncovered that the supposed victim conspired with Chibuike (her boyfriend) to stage her own abduction.

“The operatives also recovered the sum of N1,200,000 (one million and two hundred thousand naira), being part of the ransom earlier paid by the girl’s family members.

“Further information reveals that the suspects demanded N15,000,000 (fifteen million naira) ransom, and after negotiation, N3,000,000 (three million naira) was transferred into the victim’s account.”

According to the statement, Ikioye Orutugu, the commissioner of police for Anambra State, blamed these crimes on the growing moral deterioration in society and warned that a growing number of young people are turning to crime for their own selfish ends.

To inculcate discipline, integrity, and sound values in their children and wards, he called on parents, guardians, and religious leaders to step up their efforts.
