Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North Senatorial District, has encouraged the Anioma people of Delta State to fully embrace their Igbo heritage.

He also called on them to collaborate with fellow Nigerians from the Eastern region in fostering a more united and resilient nation.

Nwoko delivered this message during a conference held in Asaba, which was organized by the Unification Movement.

The event, themed ‘Igbo Bu Ofu’ (meaning “Igbos are One”), was hosted in partnership with the Ndi na Asu Bia Socio-Cultural Organisation.

Both the Igbo Unification Movement and Ndi na Asu Bia have, in recent years, become key voices advocating for the cultural, historical, and political unity of Igbo-speaking populations across Nigeria. This includes communities like Anioma in Delta North, Igbanke in Edo State, and various border regions.

The organisations emphasized that reclaiming a unified Igbo identity is vital for political influence, cultural preservation, and addressing long-standing issues of misrepresentation.

Commending the organisers, Senator Nwoko noted that their vision aligns with his belief in the recognition of Anioma’s true identity and his push for the creation of an Anioma State from Delta North.

“There is no argument about our Igbo identity. I understand history very well. I have a degree in history.

“I know the migration of the Igbo people, and I know clearly that we, the Anioma, are Igbo.

“The time has come for us to reverse the old narratives that separated us from our brothers across the Niger,” he said.
