LaLiga: Flick reveals Gavi refused to come on as substitute in 7-1 win over Valencia

Gavi declined to enter as a late substitution during Barcelona’s 7-1 thumping of Valencia, according to manager Hansi Flick.

With the victory, the Catalans exceeded the 100-goal milestone for the 2024–2025 season.

Fermín López scored two goals, and Robert Lewandowski, Ferran Torres, Raphinha, and Frenkie de Jong all scored.

As a result, Barça closed the three-point difference with second-place Atletico Madrid.

Flick benched Gavi, who has only started four La Liga games since recovering from an injury.

In the last fifteen minutes of the game, Flick intended to bring in the Spain midfielder.

He begged Flick to substitute Pablo Torre, who has only played 373 minutes this season, but he refused to come on.

“The situation I’m most impressed with is when I spoke with Gavi.

“Normally I bring him on with 15 minutes to go and he said no, bring Pablo Torre in.

“You can see how the team are connected. It’s fantastic to see as a coach. I love Gavi for this. You know he wants to play every match and to say this in this situation, it’s top,” Flick told reporters.
