Lancaster University Ghana set to strengthen ties with Nigeria through foundation programme

Lancaster University, Ghana (LUG), a leading international university campus in Africa, is set to launch a foundation programme in Nigeria, marking a major milestone in its expansion plans.

The initiative is aimed at preparing Nigerian students for degree studies at LUG’s Ghana campus, providing them with a world-class education on African soil at a fraction of the cost of studying abroad.

During a courtesy visit to the corporate headquarters of The Guardian in Lagos, the Acting Chief Executive Officer and Provost of LUG, Dr. Emmanuel Arthur, announced the development alongside members of his team. He explained that Nigeria already contributes a significant portion of the university’s student population, making the launch of the foundation programme a natural step in strengthening ties with the country

“This move will increase access to quality education for Nigerian students, enabling them to achieve their academic goals without leaving the continent,” Arthur said.

He further explained that the foundation programme is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to succeed at the degree level, serving as a seamless pathway to LUG’s rigorous academic environment in Ghana.

Arthur disclosed that the university currently offers seven degree programmes—including law, business, computer science, and politics—with plans to introduce up to six additional programmes next year.

“Our model offers students a unique opportunity to earn a UK degree here in Africa, with tuition fees that are significantly lower than those in the United Kingdom,” he stated. “We also emphasise small class sizes, personalised academic tutors, and mandatory internships, which have produced excellent outcomes, with our graduates excelling at top universities worldwide.”

Over the years, LUG has attracted a diverse student body, with Nigerians making up a substantial proportion.

“The institution’s track record among Nigerian students is impressive, with several graduates going on to achieve great success in their fields,” Arthur added.

By combining accessibility with affordability, Arthur said Lancaster University Ghana remains committed to making a lasting impact on Africa’s higher education landscape
