‘Laughable suspension’: Labour Party Reps criticize Abure’s action

Three House of Representatives members of the Labour Party have rejected their alleged expulsion from the party by its troubled and divided head, Julius Abure, calling it “laughable.”

Reps. Àfam Ogene, the LP caucus leader, Seyi Sowunmi, the deputy leader, and Amobi Ogah made this announcement in Abuja on Friday.

According to ZINGTIE, the head of the breakaway Labour Party, Julius Abure, declared that Reps. Ogene, Sowunmi, and Ogah, a well-known caucus member, will be suspended.

Sen. Ireti Kingibe, Sen. Darlington Nwokocha, Secretary of the Labour Party’s National Caretaker Committee, and Dr. Alex Otti of Abia, the sole governor elected on the party’s platform, were all suspended, according to the beleaguered former chairman.

The three LP lawmakers were shocked to find that Abure appeared intent on scheming the party’s demise in order to placate outside forces that were driving his activities, rather than trying to turn the tide of the party around.

“From yesterday’s overreach by himself and his band of jesters, it is now evidently clear to everyone who has followed recent events in the Labour Party.

“A political party is set up for the specific goal of participating in the democratic process, especially the contestation for power.

“Since the Peter Obi effect of 2023, what have Abure and his gang of undertakers done to enhance the fortunes of the party? In fact, we challenge him and his cohorts to name one single individual of note that they have attracted to the party since 2023.

“From Kogi to Bayelsa, Ondo to Edo, what Abure has done is lead the party to disastrous outcomes.

“The last time around, it was announcing the sack and replacement of Hon. Ogene as caucus leader, but when that didn’t work, he resorted to contriving a fake suspension order.

“Abure has appointed himself as a willing undertaker for the destruction of the soul of the party, but ironically, he is only supervising the burial plan of his image and integrity as a public servant and political leader. We wish him well,” the statement said.
