The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has labeled former governor Ayodele Fayose a betrayer.
The party also advised Fayose to quit the PDP instead of publicly humiliating it.
This statement came shortly after Fayose appeared on Channels TV and declared that the PDP is dead.
In a reaction released on Saturday, the Chairman of the PDP Caretaker Committee in Ekiti State, Dare Adeleke, condemned Fayose’s remarks, highlighting that he has repeatedly betrayed the party that helped him become governor twice.
Adeleke insisted that Fayose’s recent behavior, particularly his ongoing support for the APC government in the state, constitutes acts of betrayal that the party will no longer tolerate.
He alleged that “Fayose’s reason for betraying the party was after his attempts to takeover the party structure in Ekiti were resisted by leaders and members”.
Adeleke also contended that the former governor has lost his political influence in Ekiti, making it hard for officials and party leaders to align with him in efforts to weaken the PDP in the state.
“Why has Fayose refused to leave the same party he repeatedly described as a carcass and dead entity?
“Eventually, he admitted he was a bitter and disgruntled man who betrayed his own party simply because he didn’t get what he wanted. He is like a soldier who repeatedly sells secrets to the enemy and then complains about not getting promoted, Fayose wants rewards from the same party he undermines.
“He admitted on air that he supported Tinubu because he’s his friend and kinsman, as if Nigeria now runs on tribal sentiment and ruled by clannish association not merit.
“The fact is that Fayose lobbied for control of two local government executives and was rightly denied. If Fayose was truly as politically influential as he claims, he would have moved PDP’s structure in Ekiti to APC or ADC. But not one ward or LGA chairman has followed him.”
Adeleke expressed optimism that PDP would capture the state from the ruling APC government in next year’s poll, saying, “I assure Fayose, the father and grandfather of betrayal, that the PDP, which he now refers to as “they,” remains strong. We will mobilize true party loyalists, not his APC and ADC-bound jokers who will remain irrelevant back-benchers.
“Let it be known, the PDP will win Ekiti State and I am emphatic about this.”
