Lewisville ISD discusses campus improvements and solar panel projects

Multiple Lewisville ISD schools are slated to improve with three proposed projects.

The board has already addressed other campus-related issues; Degan Elementary will undergo a partial 20-year life cycle maintenance repair. The repairs would involve replacing the paving and re-roofing the entire campus. For this project, the district chose Gliden Industries as the construction manager at risk and Stantec as the architect. This project has an $8,681,238 budget.

Construction on the 20-year life cycle maintenance and repair project for the Lewisville Learning Center is expected to begin in the summer of 2025 and is a 2023 bond first-sale project. Summer 2025–2026 will see the start of construction. This project has a $951,348 budget.

Installing solar panels would cost $700,000 upfront with an estimated annual savings of $50,000. The district expects a return on investment in approximately 10 years. The solar panels could be funded by either bond savings or land sale proceeds. Board Member Staci Barker voiced her support for solar panels at a STEM-focused campus. 

LISD documents For the installation of new solar panels, state design bidding must be finished by the summer of 2025. At its regularly scheduled meeting on January 13, the board is expected to take action on the updates.
