Bayo Onanuga, a presidential aide, has accused Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, and other politicians of conspiring to overthrow President Bola Tinubu because they feel marginalized in the current political environment.
El-Rufai once acknowledged that four years is insufficient for any political office holder to make significant changes, thus Onanuga claimed in a post on X on Monday that it was inconsistent for him to be one of those purportedly calling for Tinubu’s resignation.
Onanuga cited what he called “clear economic progress” as evidence that President Tinubu has already produced noticeable benefits in just two years.
“In contrast to the political laggards and underachievers who were once governors in Anambra, Rivers and Kaduna, President Tinubu and his team have implemented meaningful changes in our country over the past two years.
“Tinubu has positioned Nigeria on the path of prosperity. The positive indicators are there for the world to see. Foreign reserves have risen to their highest in 44 months, the stock market has created over N26 trillion in new wealth, and the All Share Index has jumped from 53,000 points to over 140,000 points,” he wrote.
He went on to say that the administration has achieved balance of payments surpluses, lowered inflation for four consecutive months, increased GDP by N103.5 trillion in two years, and standardized the exchange rate.
“Indigent students are being supported with a revolutionary loan policy through NELFUND, vulnerable Nigerians are receiving cash from the Humanitarian Ministry, and national revenue has grown phenomenally,” Onanuga said.
Additionally, he contended that federal allocations are helping governors across more than ever before.
“Our national revenue has grown remarkably and will hit new records this year and next year when the tax reform takes off. States and local councils are now getting more money from the centre, allowing them to fund capital projects and create more jobs. The governors said they have never had it so good,” he noted.
Onanuga characterized the lawmakers demanding Tinubu’s ouster as power-hungry, irrelevant, and politically displaced.
“May they never succeed in their plot against our nation and people,” he said.
When electioneering starts, he promised that El-Rufai’s previous video confession will be utilized against him.
