Presidency withdraws Dakingari’s posting as Turkey ambassador-designate

The posting of Usman Dakingari, the former governor of Kebbi State, as ambassador-designate to Turkey has been withdrawn by the Presidency.

Bayo Onanuga, who serves as Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.

According to the statement, no ambassador has been assigned to Turkey.

This development occurred a few hours after the presidency announced the ambassadorial appointments.

Out of the 68 individuals confirmed by the Senate last December, President Tinubu has approved the posting of four ambassador-designates.

The statement affirmed the appointment of Ambassador Ayodele Oke as the ambassador-designate to France and Colonel Lateef Are as the ambassador-designate to the United States.

The President has also confirmed the appointment of Ambassador Amin Dalhatu, who previously served as the ambassador to South Korea, as the high commissioner-designate to the United Kingdom.

Usman Isa Dakingari Suleiman, who previously served as Kebbi State governor, has been appointed ambassador to Turkey. The President is set to start a state visit there next week.

The presidency, however, left out Dakingari’s appointment (which has since been revoked) without providing an explanation for the alteration.

“Tinubu has written a memo to the ministry of foreign affairs to notify the governments of the three countries about the ambassadors-designate, in accordance with diplomatic procedures,” the statement said.
