2027: Reno Omokri breaks silence on Tinubu’s school certificates

Reno Omokri, ambassador-designate to Mexico, has defended President Bola Tinubu against questions concerning his primary and secondary school education.

Omokri argued that many Nigerians from the president’s generation did not attend conventional schools during the period they would ordinarily have undergone primary and secondary education.

He made the remarks on Sunday while appearing as a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme.

According to him, homeschooling was common at the time, and the absence of traditional school certificates should therefore not automatically be interpreted as evidence of a lack of education.

“Are you aware that at the time the president went to primary school, at the time the president would have gone to primary school, secondary school, most Nigerians were not going to regular schools; a lot of them were being homeschooled,” Omokri said.

The former presidential aide also challenged individuals questioning Tinubu’s educational history to provide evidence of their own primary school classmates.

“If you ask some of these opponents of the president to produce their primary school classmate, they cannot,” he said.

Omokri further referred to his personal family experience, revealing that one of his children is homeschooled and that his Ethiopian wife also received her education through homeschooling.

He insisted that Tinubu meets the requirements to occupy the presidency and contest for another term in 2027.

“We know for a fact that the president is qualified for the position he’s holding, for the position he wants to be reelected to,” he said.

Addressing Tinubu’s university education, Omokri pointed to the president’s time at Chicago State University as evidence of his tertiary education.

He recalled that the university’s registrar appeared in court and confirmed that Tinubu was admitted to the institution, attended classes and eventually graduated.

“He went to Chicago State University. The registrar of that school went to court, and they confirmed that Tinubu was admitted, attended, and graduated from that school. That is enough,” Omokri said.
